Getting ahold of KRAS Science: Visiting Kevan Shokat at his UCSF Lab

By the time I met Kevan Shokat, KRAS G12D was already the name of the devil my body was fighting.

Then Kevan did something extraordinary. He made me a three dimensional model of KRAS, had it painted, and sent it to me with a handwritten letter.

If I could hold KRAS in my hand, I could understand my cancer.

Later, I had the chance to visit Kevan and the Shokat Lab at UCSF. Seeing the place where his team helped make the “undruggable” KRAS druggable made the science even more real.

Years later, that model is still with me. And so is Kevan.
